My name is Gerard Dols. I am a former homosexual.
In 1979 I came out of a radical and militant homosexual lifestyle. On Dec. 12, 1977, I was introduced to a man name Harvey Milk, the 1st openly gay City Commissioner of San Francisco .  Harvey became a close friend and personal mentor. He gave me hope as a struggling teenage homosexual.
As a matter of fact, in one of my conversations with Harvey, I asked him if there would there ever be a gay high school for people like me. His response was “yes, one day there will be”. Today there is a Harvey Milk high school in the City of New York,  for gay teenagers.
When I turned 18, he asked me to move in with he and his partner. Sadly, On Nov.27, 1978, Harvey Milk was murdered along with the Mayor of San Francisco one month prior to my moving in.
After his murder I went through tremendous period of hopelessness. My gay friends deserted me and went back into hiding. I began to question if the gay lifestyle was the life for me.  It was at that time that I met two people that had left the homosexual lifestyle. They invited me to a Jews for Jesus service in Beverly Hills. The people there showed me a love I had never experienced in the gay lifestyle…even though they knew I was openly gay. Though they loved me as a person, they helped me to understand that God had a better life for me other than homosexuality. It was then that I realized that I needed to reconcile myself with my Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior, and left the homosexual lifestyle. It has been the best decision I’ve ever made. On Nov. 26, 2008 A movie called MILK came out. The movie is about the life of Harvey Milk and his murder that took place. Also in the movie, there is 2 parts that someone is playing my part in the movie. Because of this, the Lord is using this to share what the Lord did for me by setting me free from the gay life. PRAISE GOD!
